Bengali Fish Curry

Method of Preparation:

    Preparation of Sauce:

    • In a pan heat oil (2 sp) fry the finely chopped onions (1 cup), add ginger, garlic paste (1sp) and bay leaf; fry for 2 minutes.
    • In a grinder take coriander seeds (2 tsp), cumin seeds (1 tsp), dried hot red chillies (2), whole cloves (2), cardamom (2), and cinnamon stick (2) grind them. Add this to the above pan and cook for 2-3min.
    • Add sugar (1/2 sp) and salt (1sp). Cook for 2 more minutes.

    Curry Preparation:

    • In a bowl take whole fish (250 g) or fish pieces and rub turmeric powder (1/2sp) and salt (1/2 sp) all over the fish.
    • Heat oil (3 tsp) in a large nonstick, add the fish pieces in it and cook until fish is lightly browned. Like this fry all the pieces.
    • Add the fried fish pieces in to the prepared sauce and cook for 5min.
    • Sprinkle the coriander leaves and serve with steamed rice.
